Short scale basses are quirky and filled with character. Seeing as Franklin is my first bass of this kind, I named him after a dopey yellow Labrador retriever that broke my heart by leaving the world a little too soon. Franklin’s book matched walnut top came from a hunk of wood given to me by a woodworker that no longer had a use for it. It was covered in a bit of dust and bark and when I cleaned it off a bit, I knew exactly what I wanted to create. Franklin is also inspired by an older breed of basses that are not as popular as modern instruments with their higher fidelity. Franklin doesn’t mind being different, he’s perfectly happy being who he is.
